Self-image at work… a factor that we have been studying for a long time and which is now widely discussed, is often approached in a rather narcissistic way: “improving your image,” “talking about your skills more effectively,” “dressing better,” “being more confident”…
Closely linked to the concept of self-esteem, but different, what is self-image at work? It is, for the most part, the way I see others looking at me in a work situation and how this perception of others’ perceptions influences my behavior. It all starts with this observation: the image I have of myself at work is built on what I think others think of me.
So it’s not about proposing a marketing approach (which is absolutely necessary in the later stages) but rather about making sense of the way I see others seeing me. Because through this approach, it will be possible to move from a vague feeling, a general impression, an undefined sense of unease, to facts that can be worked on.
It is possible to compare feelings with images of reality: “You say that everyone envied you (looked at you…, denigrated you…, copied you…) at your workplace. How did this manifest itself? Give me concrete examples, actions… “ We gather facts and then move on to ”how to change this double perception.”
The way we see others looking at us, professionally speaking, must be sufficiently positive and in line with reality. To clarify these points, we must constantly work on the reality of how we feel in relation to images.
To facilitate change, your image of yourself at work must be reasonably positive, as this will provide balance and support. On this subject, as on many others, it is necessary to clarify motivations and feelings, dispel preconceptions, untangle, clarify… give meaning!
